FRANCIS (FRANK) McGADEY

ONE IN A MILLION

Francis (Frank) McGadey

Words cannot express our great sadness at the passing of Frank McGadey on Monday, 15th October 2018.

Frank's involvement with The Apollo Players began in 1988 with our production of South Pacific as Hair and Wig Master.  Head Stylist with Steiner, Glasgow, his enthusiasm and expertise were invaluable and he took on many responsibilities for nearly 30 years earning him the first Lifetime Achievement Award.

His roles included Ticket Secretary, Prompt and Chaperone.  He managed with great success our little Green Room at the rehearsal studios.  There was no problem that Frank could not solve.  When required, he would stand in for absentees at rehearsals - even performing dance moves and lifts, most notably the murderous Bill Sykes in Oliver!

However, most of you will remember Frank as an exemplary Ambassador for the Apollo Players.  Immaculate in his dinner suit and bow tie, he welcomed the audience at showtime.

The heart-felt comments from his friends around the world pay tribute to Frank's unique kindness, encouragement and wisdom.  We hope this brings his family comfort at this time.  Endearingly funny, caring and honest he was one in a million.

Personally, it was an honour to call him my friend.  He was an essential part of my life and I shall miss him always.

THE KING AND I

A great deal of misinformation has appeared in certain newspapers regarding the cancellation of our performances at the Pavilion Theatre earlier this year. It suggested that the scenery we had supplied did not meet Health & Safety standards.

The Apollo Players entirely disputes this and would point out that the same scenery was checked by South Lanarkshire Council shortly afterwards and found it to be totally acceptable thus allowing performances using the same scenery to go ahead at The Village Theatre in East Kilbride.

We are now consulting with solicitors regarding taking action against the Pavilion Theatre
