Marie Hannigan (mcewan)
A talented actress and singer, Marie made her musical debut in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF in the King?s Theatre when she was eight years old and continued to take part in other productions including the Scottish Premiere of ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, OLIVER! and THE SOUND OF MUSIC. At 16 she was awarded the Mary D Adams scholarship for singing at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. As an active campaigner for recognition of ?light music? and musical theatre as a necessary study area to allow singers the best chance of a flexible and sustainable career she was delighted and feels instrumental in the commencement of such classes during her time there. After graduating as a singing teacher and performer from RSAMD, she performed in many amateur and professional concerts and shows covering a wide range of both contemporary and classical work in varied locations around the world and has been fortunate to experience performing in the HOLLYWOOD BOWL. Marie?s main love however, has always been musical theatre and one of her favourite songs which she has performed twice is ?Turn Back O Man? from Godspell. Having played the lead role of Babe Williams with another production company in Glasgow, Marie was delighted to be invited to play this role a second time for the Apollo Players in 1992. She then appeared in SUGAR before playing Kristine in A CHORUS LINE, the leading role of Nellie Forbush in SOUTH PACIFIC, Anytime Annie in 42ND STREET, leading role Susan Lawrence in the British Premiere of BIG The Musical. Marie continues to perform on a freelance basis and has just completed a successful run as Eliza Doolittle in MY FAIR LADY in March 2007. Her film credits include GREGORY?S TWO GIRLS and BLOOD RED ROSES. She has taken part in adverts for television and has sung on BBC?s SONGS OF PRAISE. Marie then attended Glasgow University to gain qualifications in Housing Studies, which led to a varied career in housing, working on house design and provision for people with particular needs. However, ultimately the creative arts remained a strong driving force and she took up painting and photography. Having exhibited and sold her work, life has turned full circle as she is now teaching singing privately, performing freelance and has started her own business called ULTRA-VOCALS to develop a range of voice related services.
