Jennie Wilkie

Jennie Wilkie

Our 1991 production of OKLAHOMA! marked Jennie's debut with the Apollo Players and she went on to play a succession of small singing parts in THE PAJAMA GAME, THE KING AND I, SUGAR, WEST SIDE STORY and CHESS. Her first major role came in 1994 when she played the wisecracking Sheila in A CHORUS LINE, which was followed by the principal roles of Mrs Sowerberry in OLIVER!, Ensign Pamela Whitmore in SOUTH PACIFIC and Maggie Jones in our successful production of 42ND STREET. After a break of three years, Jennie returned to the Apollo Players in 1999 to create the role of Abigail in our world amateur premiere production of BIG - THE MUSICAL, which was followed by Miss Bell in our revised 1999 production of FAME. Most recently she created the role of Conchita in the Scottish Amateur premiere of Barry Manilow's COPACABANA here at the King's Theatre and earlier this year that of Eva Peron in the Scottish amateur premiere of EVITA at the Theatre Royal, Glasgow. Jennie has also appeared in concert as a solo vocalist, both in our anniversary production 60 SHOWS ON at Glasgow's Mitchell Theatre, performing excerpts from the musicals SOUTH PACIFIC, CALAMITY JANE and FAME and at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in our tribute concert THE SOUND OF HIS MUSIC, where she sang Richard Rodgers' 'My Funny Valentine' with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Jennie fulfilled her ambition of playing leading lady in the year 2000 with her sincere and moving portrayal of Nancy in our sell-out production of OLIVER! and is now delighted to recreate the role for the third successive year.
