Barbara Smith

Since Barbara?s first appearance on stage when a schoolgirl, she has played many roles in a wide variety of musicals and operettas in Glasgow?s King?s Theatre for the Glasgow Light Opera Club and the Lyric Club. Her favourite roles have included Mame Dennis in MAME, Maria Ziegler in THE DANCING YEARS, Mrs Sally Adams - the hostess with the mostest in CALL ME MADAM, the Countess in SONG OF NORWAY, Queen Czipra in THE GYPSY BARON, Yente in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, Mrs Walsingham in HALF A SIXPENCE, Aunt Eller in OKLAHOMA! and Nettie Fowler in CAROUSEL. Other musical activities include concert work and singing at Fiddlers Rallies. Barbara made her first appearance with the Apollo Players when she recreated her role as Maria, Duchess of Dene in ME AND MY GIRL. Recently, she appeared as a solo vocalist in our centennial tribute to Richard Rodgers - THE SOUND OF HIS MUSIC at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, to the accompaniment of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and in June played Mrs Bedwin and Old Sally in OLIVER! Barbara is looking forward immensely to reprising her role as Mrs Higgins in MY FAIR LADY.
