Alan Kitchen

Alan Kitchen is busy as a performer, arranger, backing musician and musical director throughout Scotland and beyond. Originally from Coatbridge, his formal training was at Glasgow University, where he gained an honours degree in music in 1980. Since then, he has been involved in a wide variety of diverse musical styles and activities.
He has been a church organist for many years, and in 2005 was appointed Organist and Director of Music at Wellington Church in Glasgow's West End.
As a performer Alan gives regular organ concerts in Kelvingrove Art Gallery. In the world of entertainment, he is personal accompanist to several well known singers, and has worked for many years in various dance and function bands - this has taken him to mainland Europe, the Middle East, and to the USA, and also involves a once a year function in Balmoral Castle for the Royal Family.
Turning to the theatre, he plays regularly in pit orchestras, and indeed, has played keyboard (and accordion!) in several Apollo productions over the last 10 years - Fame, Big, La Cage aux Folles, West Side Story and Les Miserables. Alan was on the production team of Falkirk Youth Theatre for several years - helping to create productions of Me and my Girl, Sweet Charity The Wiz and Copacabana.
He was recently appointed to the Council of the Scottish Showbusiness Benevolent Fund, an organisation which enjoys mutual support with the Apollo Players.
